              Thalapothichil is a special procedure of application of medicated paste on the head. Thalapothichil is an ayurvedic treatment known for its healing properties for neck and head related ailments and pains. Thalapothichil is also called as Shirolepa (head pack/ an ointment to head).  The applied paste is traditionally made with buttermilk after carefully assessing the condition of the person. The paste which also filled with medicated groove is applied over the scalp in a layer of thickness, leaving a small central portion. The paste is then covered with plantain leaves and cloth leaving the groove open. The treatment covers up to 30 to 45 minutes depending on the individual condition.
